UCSB Student Price: $120 / Staff & Faculty: $150 / Community: $180

Sailors will learn the basics of rigging and sailing a boat including parts of the boat, points of sail, steering, tacking, gybing, weight placement and body movement, sail trim and sail control, and basic boat handling skills. Classes will be taught in RS Quest sailboats with 2-3 students per boat. Participants should be able to swim and are required to wear life jackets during the course. The goal of the class is to be sail to any nearby location in up to 12 knots of breeze.

DIRECTIONS
  • Location of the UCSB Sailing and Boating Facility is located at the Santa Barbara Harbor.
    Get a map to the harbor here.
  • The UCSB Sailing Center is located left on the breakwater just past the Sea Landing docks (large dive boat fleet).
  • Free Street Parking for the UCSB Sailing Center is located on Bath Street most days (please check the signs!): From the corner of Castillo and Cabrillo, turn left on Cabrillo for one block and turn left on Bath, park on street where allowed (check signs). Walking from Bath/Cabrillo, follow the cross walk and then side walk down the breakwater past the Sea Landing docks (large dive boat fleet).


  • WHAT TO BRING:
  • Clothes that can get wet with spray and dry quickly are recommended.
  • Close-toed shoes that you are comfortable getting damp are recommended.
  • Life jackets are provided, but you may bring your own if you'd prefer.
